GHIN & Posting

New 2024 World Handicap 9-Hole Round Posting

Beginning in 2024, when a player posts a 9-hole score, it will be combined with their Expected Score Differential over 9 holes to create an 18-hole Score Differential for immediate use – with expected score based on the player’s Handicap Index at the time the round is played as well as a course of standard difficulty.

This conversion of 9-hole scores to an 18-hole score does not apply to members that are in the process of establishing a handicap index. It takes three 18-hole (or any combination of two 9 and 18 hole) rounds to establish an initial handicap index. During this evaluation time, the 9-hole scores will not be translated to an 18-hole score.

Scores should always be posted using the Hole-By-Hole feature.

Treatment of Holes Not Finished

During Sweeps (Stroke Play), unfinished holes are recorded by marking an “x” in the putts area and recording the “most likely score” as the total strokes.

Players with unfinished holes:

  1. Will be disqualified from the sweeps competition for that day.
  2. Sweeps rounds with unfinished holes are INCLUDED in the Eclectic Awards competition. So if you pick up, you are still playing for EC.
  3. The unfinished holes do not count toward the 14 round minimum to qualify for year end awards.

During Match Play, players are allowed to pick up if their team already has achieved a good score. It is not necessary for everyone in a 4-ball team match play competition to hole out. For posting, the player that picks up must record and post their “most likely score”. Players that pick up in match play are not disqualified as it’s part of the game format.

Treatment of Holes Not Played

There are situations where holes during a round are left unplayed. It starts raining, there’s lightning, a portion of the course is under construction, it’s gets so hot you feel like you’re going to pass out, etc.

Beginning in 2024, when a player with a Handicap Index plays 10-17 holes, a Score Differential will be created based on the holes played, and the player’s expected Score Differential for the number of remaining holes not played will be added to that value to produce an 18-hole Score Differential.

The score must be posted hole-by-hole.
